Iscar Releases A Completely New Family Of Slitting Cutters Applying Tang-Grip Technology And The Durability Of Sumo Tec Grades

Iscar now offers a family of high-performance slitting tools that couple the convenience and security of Tang-Grip clamping with the increased sturdiness of the new Sumo Tec insert grades.

The perception, already validated successful in Tang-Grip parting tools, has now been spread to slitting cutters. In the patented Tang-Grip clamping system, inserts are press-fit into their pockets accompanied by a special hand tool, and are retained solidly in place without the need without requiring clamps, upper jaws or set screws that can weaken the insert and hinder chip flow. The pocket composition uses cutting forces to hold the insert seated tightly in position, removing any risk of insert pull-out. Iscar's Sumo Tec insert grades showcase a specialized post-coating treatment which greatly boosts tool life and dependability.

Introduced in late '07, the new Sumo Tec treatment smooths the insert's coated surface to dispose of microscopic stress raisers, diminish heat and friction and improve chip flow. The result is improved toughness and opposition to chipping and built-up edge, all leading to enhanced tool life. The golden-colored flank on Sumo Tec inserts aides wear detection. IC908, a hard, fine-grain substrate with excellent chipping resistance, joined with a new Sumo Tec TiAlN PVD coating. It is ideal for nodular or gray cast iron.

IC928 and 928A, PVD TiAlN-coated tough grades suitable for stainless steel, high temperature alloys and other alloy steels. These grades are likewise suggested for interrupted cuts and heavy operations.

Every Tangslit and Tang-Grip inserts are found in J- or C-type chipformer geometries from Iscar.
